Set of 6, vintage Montagnani style, silver plated cast brass Demitasse Spoons with handle top motifs from Venice (winged lion) and Florence (lion with fleur-de-lis staff). The handles emulate flowering grape vines and top off a pointed oval spoon bowl, which are stamped "Italy" on the back. Each spoon measures 5 1/2" long and 1" wide and are in very good condition, with wear commensurate with age. See photos for details. Lovely heraldic spoons such as these, were originally produced as souvenirs of Italy from a factory in Montagnani, Italy, founded in 1871 by a man named Giovani. The first items produced there were not marked. From 1891 on to the closing of the factory in 1918 (due to WWI), however, pieces were stamped "Italy" on the back. Due to their popularity, pieces were produced in silver, gold and alloys and included serving pieces, sets of spoons, forks and more and continued to produce pieces in various places in Italy. This set of 6 espresso spoons are a fun set to enjoy while reminiscing a trip to Italy over an espresso drink or as a gift for someone who is dreaming about seeing Italy's finest!
