Pair of vintage, mid century modern, sterling silver serpentine candlesticks designed in 1955 by Marion Anderson Noyes for Towle Silversmiths of Newbury, Massacheusettes. The measurements on these candle holders vary as they are somewhat pliable and can be fashioned to match or create a free-form set. To give you an idea of size, these measure 7" (7.7 cm) high, 5 1/4" (3.3 cm) wide and 10 5/8" (27 cm) long. The cups for the candles measure 7/8" (2.2 cm) in diameter which accommodates a standard taper candle. Makers marks inside cups. These candlesticks are in very good condition with no dents or noticeable damage - see photos for details. Marion Anderson Noyes (1907-2008), silversmith and designer, worked for Towle Silversmiths between 1944 - 1955 as a freelance design
consultant. She also
designed numerous items for the table and home, from  vases and containers to letter holders and cups, through other makers during her career, producing items in a distinctly mid century modern style.
Pairs of these 'Serpentine' candlesticks are in the collections of the Brooklyn Museum of Art and the Smithsonian American Art Museum along with other examples of her work. These elegant candle holders add a modern, sculptural touch to any table and are easy to combine with not only modern, but traditional settings.
