Vintage 1990s, micro mosaic, wood easel backed Photo Picture Frame made in Italy for Nordstrom. It is decorated in the classic Venician technique first developed in the 19th century by the famed glass artisans of the city which uses vibrant spun glass threads that have been carefully cut and laid in motifs inspired by gardens. (The original technique of the 18th century used by Vatican artisans used rectangular fine stone tiles to create "paintings", work which inspired glass makers later.) This gold-tone frame is covered with a dense mosaic border of tiny white flowers with yellow centers and pink and white flowers alternating with 2-tone leaf garlands bordered in baby blue. The mosaic is built of floral-, leaf- and long rectangular-shaped glass tile pieces backed by gold-tone (brass?). The frame is unusually large, measuring 6 1/4" high, 4 1/4" wide and 1/2" deep on the outside, fitting a 6" x 4" photo inside behind the glass. The back is finely grained and lacquered wood with a matching hinged easel stand with brass hardware (both the hinge and the sealing brackets). The small screwed in brackets on the back allow for easy photo loading. The original Nordstrom "Made in Italy" foil sticker remains on the back of the easel stand. Comes with a sheet of green moire fabric where the photo is inserted. Overall this frame is in very good condition, with light wear present on the metal and wood sections only - see photos for details. A lovely decorative frame to hold memories of a special person or event. Makes a wonderful gift!
