Vintage, late 1940s-1950s, William Manker Studio California Art Pottery Lamp with blue & pink ombre glaze and original boucle lamp shade. Although Manker and his contemporary art potters were focused on producing tableware, lamp bases were a staple product produced by potters following WW2, with most sold through commercial showrooms alongside furniture of the period. This mid century modern lamp is one of a series of lamps made by Manker in the studio he ran from 1935 - 1950 in Padua Hills, CA and shows off his slip cast pottery and distinctive layered glazing that he is known for. This one is a soft blue - both inside and outside - layered with pink and white to create a stippled ombre effect. The lamp is all original with the pottery at the center, capped with a vase cap of blond turned wood, sitting on a matching turned wood base and finished off with an original mid century drum shade with classic drop spider and covered in a rough woven white and tan boucle with gold strands. The lamp is working with all original brass and brass plated parts, a brown chord and brown 2-prong plug. The lamp measures 23" high with shade and 11 1/4" wide at the shade height. The base is 11" to the top of the socket and 5" wide. Lamp was disassembled and fully cleaned, revealing the original studio mark on the bottom of the pottery piece that sits on the wood base when fully assembled. In very good condition with slight patina from age. Shipped without bulb. A lovely vintage modern lamp that brings color and texture to a night stand, side table or console.
