Vintage 1970s, large demijohn or carboy base Table Lamp with walnut wood base and matching glass finial. This lamp is made from a golden brown, blown glass antique demijohn or carboy and paired with a turned walnut wood base and assembled into a lamp. As with most of these originally utilitarian blown glass containers, this heavy bottle has an imperfect shape and the glass has lots of bubbles and a slightly dimpled looking surface. An extra thick layer of glass was applied to the neck opening after blowing as the top was always vulnerable to damage. Such large bottles were used for storing and transporting wine or other liquids before plastic and metal containers became popular. This lamp measures 34.5" high overall with the base of 21" and weighs a heft 11 lbs 10 oz. The bottle is 12" in diameter on a 10" diameter felt-bottom base. This lamp is in excellent condition as it was fully cleaned and a new brass 3-way socket and harp installed. (All other parts are original.) Does not include shade or bulb. A striking, old world flavor lamp that adds character and luminosity to a space.
