Vintage, 1960, small, mid century modern, white porcelain Creamer designed by Lagardo Tackett for Schmid International. This distinctively styled pitcher was designed in California and manufactured in Japan. Original marks present on the bottom of the piece. Lagardo Tackett (1911-1984) was a designer who trained as a ceramicist in California, developed what is known as "Architectural Pottery", pots which became ubiquitous in mid century modern houses of the time, as well as other pieces at his studios in Los Angeles. He later met and designed for Schmid International, a porcelain manufacturer in Boston, for whom he created much of the tableware for which he is known. He moved in 1956 to Japan, continuing to design there and study Japanese style. He returned to the US in 1961 and settled in Connecticut, to live out his years and continuing to design all sorts of household items. This creamer, dated 1960, measures 4 1/4" high, 3 3/4" wide (including handle and spout) and 1 7/8" the other way. The round bottom measures 1 5/8" in diameter. It holds 3 fluid ounces making it the perfect match for a single coffee cup or espresso service. The classic modernist design and white crackle glaze make this creamer one to pair with both modern and traditional table serving pieces.
