Vintage 1980, cast brass and turned wood Rabbit figural Trinket, Tobacco or Stash Box by Arthur Court. This Victorian style cigarette box is made of intricately detailed cast brass limbs and hinged head of a rabbit that closes over a round box that sits inside a turned dark wood egg-shaped piece that serves as the "body" of the rabbit. This box measures 8" high, 3 1/2" wide and about 4" deep. The interior part is 2" in diameter and 2" deep. The box is made by the famed American producer of handcrafted aluminum and brass tableware. Artur Court, the award-winning, San Francisco-based designer (appointed to the CA Home Furnishings Hall of Fame in 2013) for whom the company is named, started the operation in 1966, focused on pieces for the interior design industry. The company's high end pieces are designed in California and are manufactured worldwide, depending upon the location of artisans required for the handcrafting of each piece. In very good condition, with minor wear on the rustic finishes - see photos for details. A slight irregularity in the wood that looks like a surface crack in the wood on the back as shown in photo - not known if this was original or the piece or happened over time but it appears to have consistent lacquer covering to the surrounding surface and is smooth. A charming piece for a vignette, to store a small treasure or use as a unique gift box.
