Vintage Art Deco, cobalt blue Weimar Porzellan small bottle-shaped Vase with silver overlay. This 1930-1940s vase highlights Weimar Porcelain's signature deep blue glaze with a stark white interior. The silver overlay was created through an electroplating process where silver (often 925 sterling or 800 silver) was electrolytically fused directly onto the glazed porcelain. German porcelain factories during this era (including Weimar, Hutschenreuther, and Rosenthal) frequently manufactured these solid cobalt blanks, both marked and unmarked, and either applied simple overlay inhouse or sent them out to independent, specialized silver art studios, that applied custom heavy silver geometric or floral overlay. This vase has a destinctly Art Deco character with the angled, geometric overlay pattern that wraps around the bulbous part of the piece and was perhaps an in-house product for its local market as the silver overlay is thick enough to be raised but does not bear a purity mark. The bottom is marked with a crown and shield/wreath with "Weimar" across the front in blue which dates this piece to the 1924-1945 period. The vase measures 4 1/4" high and 2 15/16" diameter across the top lip and the base is 1 7/8" in diameter. In excellent condition, see photos for details. A lovely, striking vase on its own makes a styling statement on a table or shelf or fill it with a bunch of petite blooms for an elegant gift!
