Pair of vintage, patinated brass, dancing Mouse Candleholders by Walter BOSSE / Herta Baller, Vienna, Austria. Each of these petite candleholders measure 2 1/4" high, 1 3/4" wide and 7/8" deep and weigh 2.5 oz. Original "Handmade in Austria" stickers on the base of each one. Produced using "lost wax casting" method, the partners crafted these patinaeted brass figurines with 1/4" diameter holes to hold narrow candles (danish slender taper - type candles) or a small pencil / pen. This pair is small enough to serve has holders on a birthday cake. Bosse (1904-1974), an Austrian artist and designer who was originally a ceramicist, was mentored by Josef Hoffman at the famed Wiener Werkstatte. Later he moved into working brass, using his ceramics as models for his castings. Together with Baller, he started producing his iconic cast brass animals with black patina and golden accents in the 1950s. This pair is in very good condition with minor wear - see photos for details. An adorable pair of candleholders that inspire a smile!
