Pair of vintage 1950s, sterling silver, 6-way convertible Candelabras by Empire. These classically designed candelabras each measure 12 1/2" tall and have arms that reach 12" across with 3 candle cups each which accommodate standard tapers. The quality of these candelabras are reflected in their hefty weight at 2 lbs 5 oz each which ensure their stability when fully assembled as well as in their style which includes distinctive, elegant curved arms, rope and trim detailing as well as the smooth and easy screw-in assembly / disassembly of the convertible pieces. Each candelabra consists of 4 separate pieces that can screw into one another in various combinations as shown in photos - the base or short candle holder, 2 intermediate risers (one short and the other elongated) and the top with arms and 3 candle cups. The photos show various combinations of these pieces as well as the individual pieces alone. The base part measures 2 1/4" high and 3 7/8" in diameter and can be used as a pair of simple short candle holders. Taller candlesticks can be created using the short and long extension pieces which measure 2 1/4" high and 3 5/8" high respectively. Alternatively, the arm pieces can be combined with any of the candlesticks to create candelabras of varying sizes. Marked "Empire Sterling" on the bottom together with "368", indicating the model of weighted, convertible candelabras with this style with its distinct rope trims. These striking candelabras are in very good condition with little wear apparent - see photos for details. Recently cleaned and ready to use with a set of off-white tapers included. A fabulous set for a formal dinner table arrangement, a buffet or to illuminate a mantel.

Notes on Empire Silver:

Empire Silver Company was a U.S.-based manufacturer of high-quality, American-made sterling silver and pewter giftware established in Brooklyn, NY in 1941 by the 2 older brothers of Joseph Otranto, who joined the company a few years later after returning from his WW2 Army service. He eventually took over the operation and remained active until his death in 2007. The company was acquired by Lifetime Brands in 2014. Lifetime Brands had acquired a number of domestic silver producers over the years as the silverware business consolidated, Wallace Silversmiths being one of its most notable. Empire continues to operate under the Wallace Silver division of Lifetime Brands. It continues to be known for its superior craftsmanship, producing US-made, sterling silver giftware valued for its exceptional quality, high style, and distinctive designs of baby gifts, hollow- and table-ware and barware. Pieces are marked with "Empire Sterling" and the item number.
