Stunning, large, patinated copper finish and glass pagoda-form hanging lantern, Mario Buatta 1980s maximalist style. This 6-sided lantern has metal trimmed glass-paned sides, a 2-step base with Asian shaped trim, and a distinctive, 2-tier pagoda-style roof with top finial and hanging ring. On one side is a 2-paned hinged door with accompanying lock to access the interior which includes an intergrated 3 3/4" wide metal ring to center a candle or lamp. An aged and patinated copper finish covers the exterior surfaces and the inside and bottom painted a smooth matte black. Each lantern measures 12.25" by 12.25" and 21" high to the top of finial. A lovely lantern in very good condition, suitable for both interior and covered exterior spaces. Unmarked. Some slight signs of wear on some of the edges, see photos for details. A set of 4 of these sold at Mario Buatta's estate auction at Sotheby's for $15,000 1/23/2020 and had been used as a part of his famous maximalist style in his own home.
