Baccarat Crystal Porcupine Hedgehog Figurine or Art Glass Paperweight
Baccarat Crystal Porcupine Hedgehog Figurine or Art Glass Paperweight
Vintage, clear crystal large Porcupine or Hedgehog Figurine or Paperweight by Baccarat, a design now retired. This handsome seated porcupine is a wonderful example of the sensitive design of the animal sculptures produced by Baccarat in its facilities in France's Lorraine. Baccarat, known for its beautiful lead crystal vases, chandeliers, paperweights and perfume bottles already before the mid 1800s, produced its first animal sculptures in 1925 for the opening of the International Exhibition of Industrial and Decorative Arts in France. They were so popular that Baccarat began producing such figurines each year. This Art Deco style design dates to 1999 and was retired. Porcupines signify resilience, self-protection and the ability to protect oneself from emotional or psychological harm. It is also a symbol of ancestors and wisdom with the quills representing each ancestor that came before. This porcupine figurine measures 5 1/4" long, 2 1/2" deep and 3 1/2" high and weighs 1 lb 15 oz. Baccarat etched mark on the bottom. This figurine is in very good condition with no chips or cracks, does have a fine scratch on the bottom next to the etched mark, otherwise clear - see photos for details. Carefully packed and double boxed for shipping. A beautiful addition to a collection or as an elegant accent to a desk. Great gift for a family-centric event!
