Antique French 19th century gilt wood church altar Candle Holder electrified and converted to a Table Lamp. This tall baroque style lamp measures 33" tall (23" to top of candle) and is 8" wide and 6 1/4" deep at its base. The original candle holder is gilded and light blue tempra painted carved wood and has a distressed look from age. The carving designs include a series of neoclassical forms, a fluted stem, an urn on top of and a central rosette on the plinth base, and lions feet. As is typical of altar candlesticks, the decorations are limited to the front and front sides of the candle holder as the backs were facing the back wall of the altar and not visible from the front view. The candle holder is topped of with a real wax, drip-texture candle cover to mimic the original candle. The working wiring is dated to the 1970s and include a 3-way turn switch socket, a rotary switch and brown plug on the gold colored chord and a brass harp and finial. Lined burlap lamp shade and bulb shown in photos not included (available for purchase under a separate listing). In very good condition overall, with distressing as expected for the age and use - see photos for details. Wear, chips and fading of gilt and painted areas, a crack in the wax pan at the top of the candle holder that is old and likely from temperature variations effecting the wood. A lovely, baroque style lamp with a distinct Gustavian /French country flair.
