\Vintage, hand made, studio art pottery, raku weed Pot / Vase signed Alex Long 2001. This bulb-shaped vase measures 8" in diameter and is 5 1/4" high with an opening of 5/8" wide inside the center opening. Alex Long, an Olivenhain, San Diego-based ceramic artist, is known for his lead free raku produced pieces. This one has a crackle glaze lip and a matte, textured, dark color mottled body both of which are typical results of using the raku process. Alex Long has been working with clay since he was an early teen and had his first show at 17. In the 1970's he purchased and ran a production studio, later he moved into making unique pieces and the raku technique which he modified for his work without toxic lead-based ingredients. In addition to this innovative approach, he is also known for his extremely large works which have gone on display in a number of museums and galleries. This pot is in very good condition - see photos for details. This unique piece of art pottery makes a soft statement in a space with or without a blooming stem or "weed".
