Vertical handles also allowed such pots to be easily accommodated on a crowded stove top, oven or when storing. Such unusual pots were made in France by blacksmiths for specific purposes in small kitchens and dining cars where space for cooking as well as storing was at a minimum. The rustic nature of the craftsmanship of the lip and base of the pot are attributed to this. This pot measures 7 1\/4\" in diameter, 7 1\/2\" wide at the handle, 11 1\/4\" high and weighs 1 lb 9 oz. It is overall in good condition, structurally strong with wear and patina from use and age. The tin lining shows some wear and thinning areas as shown in photos. An interesting example of the kitchens of old France.
